All Aboard!

A nice sleep in for me until 7 a.m. as we prepare to leave our hotel and board the Celebrity Edge today. Kelly has already seen pictures of the ship docked online and her excitement is growing by the minute. I don't think she slept much last night because of it.

We had a nice breakfast at one of the many eateries along the boardwalk in Darling Harbour and then headed back to the hotel to finish packing. Our ship check in time is 12:00 so I arrange for a bag pickup at 11:00 am with the hotel bellman Peter and we headed up to the 12th floor.

So here is the actual timeline.....

10:40 arranged for bags with the bellman
10:43 packed the final bits into suitcases etc
10:57 bag trolley arrives and loaded it up
10:59 I head down with the bags as Kelly gets the last few items sorted.
11:01 I’m downstairs and give the bellman a couple of cold beers I had left over. Kelly arrives saying the hotel staff took the cards and we are checked out!
11:02 Kelly orders an Uber
11:04 Uber arrives.
11:16 Uber drops us off at the cruise terminal ($12.91)
11:20 bags dropped
11:24 Check in
11:26 Check in complete
11:30 in security line
11:51 on to the ship
11:55 in room to drop off carry on bags (wine bottles!) & meet our room attendant
12:00 Room is ready and time to explore the ship
12:12 on deck and having a Margarita ($10 US each)
Checked out the outer decks and wandered aimlessly around looking at everything
12:24 Drink empty
12:25 Drink refilled :-)
Chilling in the Eden Room in the aft section of the ship which featured some great views of Sydney Harbour. Kelly had a short FaceTime with Harper & Rory as they were getting ready for bed and missed their Nana :-)

All aboard!

Some additional touring around the ship and then we headed back to the room to start unpacking. No bags yet but we got the carry on ones emptied.

We watched the folks lining up for the arrival of the King of England this afternoon. We were able to see them when they arrived via motorcade and watched them do a meet & greet session before boarding a yacht to do a sail past of numerous land and marine assets that graced the harbour.

A " fleet review" is underway and we have seen fly pasts of military aircraft, cruise pasts of naval ships and lots of extra police activities (including snipers on rooftops) as we prepare to depart.

A couple Black Hawk helicopters flew over carrying huge flags of Australia and the Royal Australian Navy and then a huge fly past by various naval helicopters.

Flagpast as the royals did a walkabout.

Fly past

This was followed by a fly past of F35 & F16 fighters to cap off the show. All very impressive.

Bags are here now but we will unpack later (which means tomorrow morning:-)

We headed for our 6pm dinner reservation at the Cosmopolitan but Kelly had the wrong date pulled up on her app.  Hey it’s the first day! We sorted it out and after selecting the correct day, we had a 6:30 pm dinner date at the Tuscan Restaurant. But wait! We have the golden two hour free drinks window for "Elite" members so we went to the martini bar and ordered some drinks. Got chatting to a nice couple and well, after another drink, we missed our dinner reservation. Not a great start but it’s a new ship to us 😂

Off to the Oceanview cafe for a nice buffet dinner. A wide selection of food for every taste. It was all very good!!

The comedy show was starting at 9 so off we went to the theater and enjoyed the hour long laughter. Kelly only nodded off once that I saw!

After the show, we wandered the ship a bit then called it a night just before 11 pm... still did 13,700 steps today! Blogging now...

As usual, I'll check for spelling and grammar in the a.m. Expect more ship pics in the coming days.  Off to the rack.

Friday - Homeward Bound

It's a weird one as we arrive home before we leave Sydney... with the time change that is:-)  Up early as I hit the shower and then did...
